A beach with a smattering of fishing boats, a row of freshly-waxed surfboards and the cool waters of the Bay of Bengal await you at Pondicherry. The waves are the true stars here, with the perfect conditions for beginners to learn how to surf.

the balancing act

The program begins with skill building sessions, safety briefings and moves on to surfing lessons. Beginners start on a 9ft learner’s surfboard. Get a hang of things and catch the real waves further away from shore. Surfing sessions start early in the morning and wrap up by lunch. The evenings are for exploring Auroville and the historical sites around Pondicherry.

program itinerary

DAY 1 Depart from Bangalore 

DAY 2 Settle in at Auroville and set expectations with a program brief and some basics of surfing. Learn about Auroville at the Visitor Centre 

DAY 3 Start with a session on safety and hit the waves for the first time. Feel the good vibes at Matrimandir—the heart of Auroville 

DAY 4 Practice pop-up surfing and body surfing on the beach. Cool Time activities at the Youth Centre in the evening 

DAY 5 Learn how to balance and stand on the surfboard! More Cool Time activities at the Youth Centre in the evening 

DAY 6 Surfing practice to firm up skills and techniques. See surfboards being crafted by hand at a local factory 

DAY 7 Surf all day and show off your new skills! Leave on a high later in the evening

sharing and caring, the hostel way

The group stays in clean and open hostels in Auroville with three people sharing a spacious room and an attached bathroom. Girls and boys have separate rooms. Obviously.

care and safety

Being well fed and hydrated is crucial to staying energised for the action-packed days. The meals provided in the course of the trip span various cuisines—always fresh, wholesome and nutritious. Water, soup or juice provided during hydration breaks through the day. The team on the program comprises of professional surfers and certified outdoor experts who go through extensive training and assessment before working with us. For the comfort and special needs of girls, there is a female instructor present at all times.

travel details

The group departs from Bangalore in AC buses with push-back seats at 10:00pm. We reach the camp next day for breakfast. On the way back home, the bus reaches the assembly point by 6:00am.  Outstation participants need to fly into Bangalore on the morning of the departure date. This program might be more demanding than the usual physical activities your child may be used to.

fitness requirements

This program might be more demanding than the usual physical activities you're used to. We recommend a little jogging, stretching and exercise a few weeks before the departure to gain the flexibility and agility needed to truly enjoy the experience. Do this wearing the shoes you want to carry for the program—it'll help break into them.
